Route Summary
Providing continuous
views of the Cree Estuary
and beyond this walk starts
near sea level and climbs
via farm roads and paths
past the Fell Quarries
and Old Kirkmabreck Church
before crossing farm hill
land and onto Cambret
Moor. Turning south the
route passes an ancient
stone circle before a
climb over Cairnharrow,
Barholm and Ben John followed
by the descent towards
Laggan and the views of
Skyreburn Bay before you.
Distance: 13km (8 miles)
Ascent: 750 metres
Difficulty: strenuous

1-2 Kirroughtree to Newton Stewart
|
|
Route Summary
A
gentle woodland walk starting
at Kirroughtree Visitor’s
Centre and using the excellent
network of paths to take
in the Bruntis lochs,
Blackcraig Hill, and around
Larg Hill. The walk then
crosses into Clarkes Wood,
past the Parliament Knowe
and descends through Bower
Wood into Minnigaff and
the short walk back to
Newton Stewart town centre.
Distance: 8km (5 miles)
Ascent: 250 metres
Difficulty: Moderate
