This is an ideal choice for families who want to see some of the splendour of the Galloways and the wonderful views of Loch Trool and beyond. A short steep start ascends to the highest point of the walk on the Fell of Eschoncan and from here the walk is easy going. At the half way point we will stop off at the Stroan Bridge Visitor Centre so you don't need to carry your lunch in a back pack. A great walk to introduce the whole family to a mixture of forest tracks, hill paths and public roads.

From the Multi Start Point at Bruce's Stone we immediately start by climbing to the trig-point on the Fell of Eschoncan (347m) and virtually the highest point of the walk. Ponder over the views of Loch Trool and remember the Battle of Glentrool in 1307 with a birdseye view of the battle site on the southern banks of Loch Trool. From here we continue north to join a newly upgraded forest track which provides us with an ideal, easy route all the way down to Stroan Bridge Visitor Centre. Here we stop for refreshment and the chance to browse the Gift Shop before we set off back to the start.

Following the water of Trool and a Forestry Commission way marked trail, we eventually pick up the Southern Upland Way path, which we follow for 2 kilometres until we arrive at the former Caldons Campsite.

After crossing the bridge we continue along the banks of the Water of Trool taking time to enjoy the view of Loch Trool with the Fell of Eshoncan and Buchan providing an appropriate back drop. After picking up the public road south of Glen Trool Lodge, we return to the Bruce's Stone Car Park.

If you enjoy walking way marked trails, and want to try something a bit more of a challenge, this is an ideal walk for you.

There is no limit to the number of walkers on this route.
